Introduction

The annual concert of Wesley Methodist School was held on the 17 and 18 July 2009 in the school hall. This year, the school proudly presented “Puteri Gunung Ledang” with a student cast of 29 actors and about 400 dancers.

The story of “Puteri Gunung Ledang” is about the forbidden romance between Gusti Putri Retno Dumillah, a Javaness Hindu Princess from the Kingdom of Majapahit, and Hang Tuah, the famed Malay Muslim warrior from the Sultanate of Malacca.

In this presentation by the school, history, mythology and folklore were fused to tell a fateful tale of forbidden love, in the time when allegiance and honour to country were placed above personal desires.

The dazzling costumes, vivid backdrops and enchanting music added to the grandeur of the performance and kept the audience enthralled. The performance was staged for 2 nights to a packed hall of parents and guests.
